Adult Birthday Invitation
I made this card for my mother's 60th birthday party. I fell in love with the paper! I used decorative cardstock from Great Scraps in Millersville, MD as well as coordinating 12x12 textured cardstock. I really like the shape of the card, but postage costs a lot more when using square envelopes.
I loved the design on the cardstock, so I didn't want to cover it with solid paper. To solve the problem, I printed the text on vellum, which is like thick wax paper and allows the image to come through. When printing on vellum, make sure it is designed to work with your printer, whether it's ink jet or laser. Because of the translucent nature of vellum, most adhesives will show through. To avoid that problem, I created photo corners using the orange cardstock.
Basically, you just cut strips of the cardstock 1/2" wide, and then fold the corner down at a 45 degree angle. Fold the paper again to form a triangle and trim the end. Slide the four corners over the vellum and adhere to card with double-sided tape.
Children's Birthday Invitations
I made these invitations for Emily, who is crazy about monkeys! I couldn't find decorative paper that I liked, so I used stamps to design this card. I really lucked out when I found a set stamps with cute monkeys and a palm tree.
The set enabled me to stamp each image in stages, so I could incorporate different colors. I don't usually use a folded card for invitations, but I didn't want to overwhelm the front of the card.
The only decorative paper I used was the brown with pink polka dots, which was left over from another project. The green paper I stamped with a flower stamp from a different set and a Versa Mark pad. I also stamped some flowers on the envelope to carry over the design.
Emily's sister, Sara, wanted a cowgirl theme for her party, so I used a boot stamp from Paper Source with brown ink and clear embossing powder. This was a much easier invitation to create than Emily's. I just printed on Pure White cardstock and layered it on an A7 Chocolate flat card from Paper Source. I used a strip of pink cardstock with white polka dots along with a 1/4" satin ribbon, which I strung though the boot and tied with a square knot.
Retirement Party Invitation
I made this card for a coworker, who retired last year. All the materials are from Paper Source. I used A7 flat cards in Gravel and printed the text on Superfine White cover stock. I used the Vines rubber stamp with Scarlet Colorbox pigment ink and embossed with clear powder. I used a Stamp-a-ma-jig to help with stamping the image perfectly in the corner of the paper. I made a paper band with Persimmon text and used 1/4" satin ribbon in Pool.
Christmas Cards
Last year was the first year in about a decade that I didn't make my holiday cards. This is the card I made the year before last. I fell in love with the Retro Tree stamp from Paper Source and when I saw the tinsel thread in the store, the idea came together.
I used an A2 flat card in Gravel and printed on Superfine White cover stock. I stamped the tree in Eggplant pigment ink from Colorbox and embossed with clear powder. I used a needle to thread the tinsel through the tree. I received more compliments on this card than any other.
I love this card! Again, I used a Gravel backing...I think it might be my favorite Paper Source color. I layered in Superfine White cover stock, on which I printed the greeting. I used Robins Egg pigment ink from Colorbox and embossed "Merry Christmas" on the card.
To add a little flare I used the roll wrap of Pool Dots for the paper sash and tied with 1/4" red satin ribbon. I also used the Pool Dots to line my Gravel envelopes, which is the ultimate finishing touch.
