Ruffled Lamp Shade

I fell in love with this Anthropology Inspired Ruffled Burlap Lamp Shade I saw on Pintrest a few months ago.

When I read through the tutorial on the blog Tatertots & Jello and saw how easy it was to recreate, the project jumped to the top of my bucket list.

I don't exactly have room for another lamp in my condo, so I had to choose one to redesign. Here's the lamp I started with...

This wasn't its original design - I had already painted it once and replaced the shade with something I thought was stylish at the time. Well, times have changed, and it's time for a make-over.

I purchased all my supplies at Hobby Lobby, which is my new favorite store. I bought a yard and a half of creamy white burlap for about $6, a Decorative Lamp Shade for $6, and a can of Krylon spray paint for $6. The most awesome part was that the lamp shade was 1/2 off and I had a 40% off coupon, so the total was about $12-$13.

Last night I cut, ironed, and hot glued the burlap to the shade by following the tutorial on Tatertots and Jello. I was able to finish the project while I watched a movie, so it took a little over 2 hours. I will say that the glue burnt the crap out of my fingers, but I think it was worth it.

Here's what the lamp looked like with the new shade.

I love the way the shade turned out! But it was obvious the lamp itself needed a new coat of paint. I selected a Krylon Champagne Brushed Metallic spray paint, since I thought the light gold would look really good against my newly painted pale blue walls.

What do you think? I think it turned out great!
